Mark Hodges



BPO Pioneer

Mark Hodges is an acknowledged pioneer of business process outsourcing (BPO), coining the term in 1989 in the first-ever research report on BPO. Mark has a talent for creating new markets and building the preeminent company in those markets, including EquaTerra, Exult, TPI and G2 Research.

As a co-founder of EquaTerra and chairman of the board, Mark works actively with a variety of EquaTerra clients across the globe and is responsible for corporate development.

Prior to EquaTerra, Mark established and led TPI’s BPO practice. In a two-year period, he grew the practice to represent 15 percent of TPI’s revenue. He was also responsible for TPI’s Strategy & Corporate Development function. Before TPI, he served as worldwide director of Gartner Dataquest's IT Services (ITO and BPO) Vendor Group, which consisted of more than 40 analysts across the globe.

Mark is a regular speaker at global BPO industry events and a monthly columnist for HRO Today magazine. He sits on two industry advisory boards – the HROA (HR Outsourcing Association) and SharedXpertise.

Mark graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in political economies of industrial societies (economics and political science).

In addition to EquaTerra, Mark is passionate about public speaking, writing, reading, skiing and traveling. A native of Silicon Valley (Cupertino, California), he now lives in Houston. Mark is the father of  a grown son, a teenage son, and an infant daughter.

  • A founding executive of Exult (NASDAQ: EXLT), the first HR BPO company. With Mark serving as vice president of Strategy & Corporate Development, Exult reached $270 million in revenue in less than 3 years. Exult is now owned by Hewitt & Associates
  • Co-founder and COO of G2 Research, Inc. (G2R), a market research and consulting firm. G2R clientele included every major vendor who wanted to enter into the ITO and BPO markets, including IBM, Accenture, HP, EDS, CSC, ACS, Syntegra, Atos, ICL, Cap Gemini, Fujitsu and others. The firm was sold to Gartner in 1999
